BuggyDays Run

Amanda, Kristen, and I went to Barnesville this morning and ran in the BuggyDays road race. Amanda ran the 10K run (6.2 miles) and won 1st place in her age group. Kristen ran the 5K run (3.1 miles) with no previous training and won 3rd place in her age group.

Until about a month ago, I had not run for about 11 years. Amanda had planned on running in a road race in Valdosta and asked Doug and me to go run with her. So a week before the race, we started semi-training! We went to Valdosta and ran in the run and really enjoyed it. I was pumped and wanted to train to run Buggydays with her.

For some reason (hmmm...could it be age) I injured my calf muscle so running was put on the back burner. I told Amanda I'd still go to Barnesville with her and cheer her along. Amanda had also asked Kristen to go so Kris and I decided we would walk the 5K while Amanda ran the 10K. Being the competitive type, when the cannon went off at the start line this morning, Kristen and I looked at each other and started running. While we didn't run 8 minute miles, we still ran (and walked just a little) and had a great time. Kristen got 3rd in her age group and I got 4th in mine (did I mention that there are more old folks running in these races than young folks). I saw lots of people I used to run with years ago still out there running.

We are now trying to find another race to run in soon. Kristen has to work this coming weekend, then Amanda has to work the next weekend. Kris and I are are planning on walking in the Boston mini-marathon 5 k walk while Amanda is training for the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) run.
